Day 1: Hanoi – Arrival (-/-/-)
Meet upon arrival at Hanoi International Airport, then transfer to the hotel for check - in. Time at leisure. Overnight in Hanoi. Check - in time at 02:00 PM.
Day 2: Hanoi city tour – Laocai (B/L/-)
We discover Hanoi-the charming capital of Vietnam today:
Hochiminh's mausoleum (closed on Monday & Friday, October & November yearly) and his residence, Presidential Palace, Tran Quoc pagoda, One pillar pagoda, French colonial quarter, Temple of Literature, Hanoi Opera, Museum of Army.
Then explore Hoan Kiem lake and a short walk in the Hanoi Old quarter to observe the daily life of local people.
Attend a performance of water puppet show.
Transfer to Hanoi Railways Station to catch the night train to Lao Cai. Overnight on train.
Day 3: Lao Cai – Bacha market – Sapa (B/L/-)
Early arrival at Laocai Railways Station.
Have a simple breakfast in Lao Cai
Depart to Bacha market, the biggest colorful market in Laocai province, held every Sunday morning. You can see the ethnic minorities go to the market on the back-horse or on foot. The market is bustling from 09.00am to 12:30pm.
Return to Lao Cai before climbing to Sapa hill. Check-in at hotel. Leisure time. Overnight in Sapa.
Day 4: Sapa villages – Hanoi (B/L/-)
AM: Visit Sapa market, short trek to Laochai & Tavan villages where we meet H’mong, Dzao, Dzay people.
PM: Explore Taphin village with Black H’mong people.
Then drive back to Laocai to take the train night to Hanoi. Overnight on train.
Day 5: Hanoi – Halong Bay (B/L/D)
Early arrive in Hanoi, you discover Nhat Tan morning flowers' market before having breakfast at hotel.
Then depart for Halong bay, 180km east of Hanoi, listed as World Heritage Area by UNESCO in 1994.
12:00 we board a traditional junk to discover the 8th World Wonder where the movie "Indochine" was realized with Catherine Deneuve, French star in the 1991. Lunch on boat with fresh seafood. It is time to relax and unwind on sun deck through the most beautiful landscapes with more than 2,000 islands and islets limestone, rising from the emerald water. Visit a natural cave, the most picturesque grotto in the bay. Swimming (if the weather permits) and relaxing on the deck. Dinner & Overnight on board.
Day 6: Halong Bay – Ninh Binh (B/L/-)
Continue our excursion throughout the bay.
12h00 Lunch at local restaurant.
Drive to Ninh Binh throught the heart of Red River Delta such as Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh provinces.
Upon arrival at hotel, check-in. FREE TIME. Overnight in Ninh Binh.
Day 7: Ninh Binh – Vinh (B/L/-)
Breakfast at hotel
Depart for Tam Coc. Enjoy a cruise on Ngo Dong stream to discover Tam Coc, famed “Halong Bay inland”, then Bich Dong pagoda. Lunch at local restaurant.
Continue our journey to Vinh. Upon arrival, check-in at Phuong Dong Hotel. Overnight in Vinh.
Day 8: Vinh – Phong Nha – Dong Hoi (B/L/-)
We leaves Vinh for Dong Hoi on Truong Son road (200 km) through war vestiges. Stopover at Dong Loc T-junction to learn the story of 10 female youth volunteers who fought and sacrificed the lives to maintain the road under heavy bombing.
Then continue our drive to Dong Hoi known as the beginning of the legendary Hochiminh Trails during war time. Lunch at local restaurant.
Visit Phong Nha cave listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Site in 1999. Phong Nha complex was known as the longest cave in Vietnam (14 km appro.) where British caving expedition explored in 1990. You arrive in Dong Hoi in the late afternoon. Check-in at Sun Spa resort SUP Garden View. Overnight in Dong Hoi.
Day 9: Dong Hoi – Hue (B/L/-)
Early morning, visit Nhat Le fish market, an ideal photo spot with sellers and buyers invariably wearing the ubiquitous conical hat.
Back to the hotel for breakfast.
Driver to Hue (200 km). We visit former DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) along Ben Hai river (1954 - 1975) where vestiges of fierce battles can be seen comprising Vinh Moc tunnels and Doc Mieu base. Travel on Truong Son road or Hochiminh Trails - the north - south supply route during Vietnam war, passing by Truong Son cemetery and Ben Tat bridge (cầu Bến Tắt). Back to the Highway No1 via Dong Ha town and the ruins of old Quang Tri citadel. Lunch en route.
Arrive in Hue in the evening. Check-in at the hotel. Overnight in Hue.
Day 10: Hue (B/L/-)
Breakfast at hotel
Enjoy a boat trip on Perfume river to visit Thien Mu pagoda and Dong Ba market. Then discover Imperial Citadel and Khai Dinh king‘s mausoleum and the village producing the conical hats. Lunch at locat restaurant. Leisure time.
Tonight we enjoy Royal Dinner show where you will be King and Queen one time in the life. Overnight in Hue
Day 11: Hue – Hoian (B/L/-)
Then we leave Hue for Danang.
The scenic 3 hours and half drive via Hai Van pass offers spectacular views of mountains, the sea, idyllic beaches and villages. Visit Cham museum on the way. We continue further south to the charming historic city of Hoian. Upon arrival, check-in at hotel. Accommodation in Hoian
Day 12: Hoian – Cooking class (B/L/-)
AM: we enjoy a cooking class from the buying local ingredients at Hoian market to tasting Vietnamese cuisine prepared by ourselves.
PM: discover Hoian ancient town, known to early Western merchants, the city was one of the major trading centers of Southeast Asia in the 16th century. Hoian preserves a distinctive Chinese atmosphere with low, tiled-roof houses and narrow streets. Many of the houses were constructed of rare timbers and decorated with lacquer panels engraved with Chinese characters and pillars carved with ornamental designs. Visit historic merchants and community houses, places of worship and Japanese bridge, central market Hoian.
Overnight in Hoian.
Day 13: Hoian – Danang - Saigon (B/L/-)
Transfer to Danang Airport for flight to Hochiminh city/Saigon.
Discover Hochiminh city (formerly Saigon), the biggest economic center in the country: visit former Presidential Palace, Opera house, Notre Dame cathedral, Post Office, China town, Thien Hau pagoda, a lacquer workshop. Overnight in Saigon.
Day 14: Saigon – Cuchi tunnels – Tayninh (B/L/-)
Depart for Tay Ninh to discover Caodai temple where the world is in peace with Buddhism, Catholicism, Taoism and Confucianism. Lunch at local restaurant.
Drive to Cu Chi tunnels. At its height, the tunnel system stretched from Saigon to Cambodian border and was three levels deep. There are more than 200km of underground tunnels, consisting of a main axis system with many branches connecting to underground hideouts, shelters and other tunnels. The remaining tunnels have become a major tourist attraction giving the visitor a unique experience and a feel of what underground life in the war must have been like. Back to Saigon. leisure time. Overnight in Saigon.
Day 15: Saigon – Caibe homestay (B/L/D)
Depart for Cai Be located in the heart of Mekong Delta.
Enjoy a cruise to visit Cai Be floating market, then check-in at Mekong lodge. Lunch will be served in the nice restaurant.
We continue our discovery to homes factories of candy and handicraft near by the village: coconut candy making, rice paper making, popcorn & pop rice making… and taste fresh tropical fruits in an orchard. Back to Mekong Lodge for refresh.
In the evening, attend a cooking class and dinner. Overnight at MeKong Lodge.
Day 16: Cai Be – Saigon - Departure (B/-/-)
Breakfast at hotel
Walking or cycling tour in the island around the Mekong Lodge. Boat transfer to Cai Be.
We drive back to Hochiminh/Tan Son Nhat International Airport for departure flight. "Trails of Vietnam Tour" ends.
